Goody

An archaic form of address for a woman, usually one of lower social status, and often for one who was older.  The word is a short version of “goodwife.”  “Mistress” would be used for someone of higher status.  The term was common among the European colonists in late 17th century Massachusetts Bay Colony, at the time of the Salem witch craze (1692), and appears often in the court records of those trials.
